One of the passengers on board A Delta Airlines On the flight to the Big Apple, she feared for her life and thought she was going to “pee” herself because the plane had engine problems and had to land in Iceland.

Lohani Santos was on board Delta flight DL45 from Dublin to JFK on Tuesday when she said the plane ran into rough conditions. Disordercausing the cabin to shake violently with lights cutting in and out.

“I’m not kidding, I thought I was going to die,” Santos said in a TikTok video after landing in Iceland. “…I was literally shaking, about to urinate on myself.”

The Boeing 767 experienced technical difficulties after taking off from Dublin, forcing the pilots to make an emergency landing at Dublin Airport. Keflavik Airport Delta told the newspaper in southwest Iceland.

“As the safety of our customers and personnel is of utmost importance, our flight crew followed standard procedures and were diverted to Keflavik International Airport after an engine problem was reported,” the company said.

The incident also prompted Iceland’s Civil Protection Department to deploy personnel as a precaution, with emergency services deployed around the airport. The Irish Independent reported.

Santos said the initial silence from the crew made passengers anxious after screens in the cabin went dark and the only instructions given to passengers were to grab their life jackets.

Despite the “intense” moment, the creator said she was able to stay as calm as she could thanks to the man sitting next to her who allowed Santos to hold his hand during the turbulent flight.

The man was later identified by the media as local celebrity Martin King, a long-time presenter with Irish company Virgin Media who hosts television and radio programmes, and who also served as TV3’s first weather presenter.

“When we landed, everyone started clapping and they all felt relieved,” Santos said as he quickly hugged King. “He helped me through it.”

Delta added that the New York-bound flight was carrying 208 passengers along with 11 crew members, who were all given accommodations to finish their journey to JFK Airport by Wednesday evening.
