A “brave” shopper shot an alleged creep who harassed another customer and threatened to kill everyone inside a Los Angeles beauty store.
Deputies responded to reports of a shooting at Pink Beauty Supply in Compton around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, and found a man dead from his injuries, according to The Guardian. Los Angeles County Police Department.
Officials said the man entered the store and followed a customer before touching her, prompting employees to ask him to leave.
The alleged pervert became “increasingly verbally abusive toward employees and customers,” and began “throwing and damaging merchandise in the store.”
“The incident quickly escalated. Employees and customers noticed that the man had something in his hand that they believed was a knife,” officials said.
“The man made verbal threats that he would kill and harm everyone in the store.”
After the threats, another female agent pulled out her gun and fired a warning shot at the suspect.
But the man rushed towards the armed agent, who fired a second fatal shot.
Police have not identified the man who was killed, however CBS Los Angeles He reported that he was 42 years old with possible gang ties and a criminal record that included assaults, burglary and theft.
Cops said the agent who pulled the trigger did so out of fear for her safety and was not arrested. She is also cooperating with investigators during the investigation.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office will decide whether the woman needs to face charges, ABC 7 reported.
Police said the investigation is still ongoing.
A witness to the shooting praised the “brave” agent who shot the suspect, describing him as a hero.
An anonymous witness said: “It’s crazy to me because kids go there a lot, what if I was there alone and it just exploded? I could have been hit or something could have happened to me.” CABC.
“I’m glad the woman who did this was brave enough to go and do something like this to save someone else.”
Investigators said surveillance footage from the cosmetics store indicated the presence of additional customers during the altercation and shooting.
Frequent shoppers Almond Le Joyce and Melody Johnson were stunned, calling the incident unexpected for a store that has been part of the neighborhood for years and is usually quiet and friendly.
“Why would someone do that here?” Le Joice told CBS LA he was shocked that a customer was inside the store with a gun.
“I’m glad no one else was hurt, but for her to come in here and get a gun is concerning,” Johnson said. “It’s terrible that this happened here in this community.”
Compton was ranked among America’s deadliest cities in 2024, ranking ninth in homicide rate, according to Center for Public Safety Initiatives.
