A suspect in Hamas’ October 2023 terror attack on Israel has been formally charged in federal court.

Mahmoud Amin Yaqub Al-Muhtadi, who has become Lives in LouisianaA federal grand jury in Lafayette indicted him on charges of conspiracy to support a foreign terrorist organization and visa fraud, according to KADN.

If convicted, he faces life in prison in the United States.

Al-Muhtadi pleaded not guilty to the charges, KADN reported.

Alleged al-Muhtadi is linked to the Hamas attack, which killed around 1,200 people. Thousands of Palestinians were also killed Israel’s military response.

Authorities claim al-Muhtadi trained with a Hamas military group before entering the United States on a fake visa. He was working in a restaurant until his arrest last week.

US Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La. Said Al-Muhtadi would face legal consequences if found guilty.

“Obviously, he’s a war criminal out there. But I think there are many ways to pursue this, and I think if he’s guilty he should face the full consequences of his actions,” Cassidy said in a statement to KADN.

Al-Muhtadi will stay in custody Without bond pending his trial. A trial date has not yet been set.
