A man steps outside the Louvre in Paris during a recent investigation brazen crown jewels heist The famous museum has gone viral.

Dressed in a three-piece suit with a dark jacket and gold vest with fedora and an umbrella used as a walking stick, the mystery man caused a stir on social media and drew comparisons to Inspector Claus from “Pink Panther” and Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poirot.

Many believed that Dashing Man was the Chief Inspector On this matter, some speculated that his attractive appearance hinted at a charming criminal who was somehow involved in the theft.

One X user wrote of the photo: “A real shot of a French detective (not AI!) working on the case of the French crown jewels stolen from the Louvre,” and another claimed, “The guy who looks like something out of a 1940s detective film noir is a real French police detective investigating the theft.”

A third wrote: “The detective working on the Louvre jewel heist is the man in the fedora. Don’t do everything French well.”

But the Associated Press photographer who snapped the curious shot last Sunday claimed he had no reason to believe the man had anything to do with the Louvre investigation, but was simply a man stepping into the frame.

The photographer, Thibault Camus, told his outlet that he believed the man added a bit of Parisian flair. I don’t know what – “I don’t know what” to his photos.

“He appeared before me, I saw him, I photographed him,” says Camus. “He walked away.”

Paris authorities AP also decided to add a little French intrigue to the mystery, asking if they could identify the man.

“We want to keep the mystery alive ;)” The Paris Prosecutor’s Office Answered.

Last Sunday morning, four masked criminals broke into the galleries shortly after the museum opened and stole several valuable items from the Louvre’s collection of crown jewels.

The thieves fled on a scooter and are yet to be nabbed.
