A woman was struck by a small plane when it crashed into a crowded California park while trying to make an emergency landing, according to authorities and reports.

The small plane crashed into a soccer field at Hartwell Park in Long Beach around 4 p.m. According to the Long Beach Fire Department.

Fire officials said: “When units arrived, they found a small plane on its belly and the landing gear was broken,” noting that the plane’s fuselage was intact.

The plane hit a woman in her 40s who was in the field during the strange landing. The authorities added that she was taken to the hospital with the elderly pilot, and firefighters had to extract her from inside the plane.

Miraculously, both people sustained only moderate injuries and were in stable condition, officials said.

Authorities said preliminary information indicates that the plane began its journey in Compton, traveled to French Valley, and returned to Compton, where the accident occurred.

The plane was scheduled to land at Long Beach Airport, just a mile and a half northeast of the football stadium. The Long Beach Post reported.

Aerial footage of the wreckage showed authorities examining the cordoned-off area where pieces of debris were scattered on the ground near the badly cracked left wing. KTLA reported.

The photos showed the plane with a propeller at the back, two smaller wings near the front, and two larger wings at the back, the Long Beach Post reported.

The outlet said that football training continued on the field after the violent incident.

“The good news is it could have been a lot worse,” Mayor Rex Richardson said at the start of Tuesday’s City Council meeting, according to the outlet.

Richardson said: “We are fortunate that there were no deaths or serious injuries. It was a glider that made an emergency landing, and it was a very difficult landing on the field at Hartwell Park.”

The FAA did not respond to a request for comment from The Post.

The investigation is still ongoing.
