But the Associated Press photographer who captured the bizarre photo last Sunday claimed he had no reason to believe the man had anything to do with the Louvre investigation, but rather was just someone who walked into the frame.

Photographer Thibaut Camus told his outlet that he thought the man added a little Parisianism I don’t know what – “I don’t know what” To his pictures.

“He appeared in front of me, I saw him, and I took the picture,” says Camus. “He passed and left.”

Parisian authorities also decided to add a bit of French intrigue to the puzzle when asked by the Associated Press if they could identify the man.

“We prefer to keep the mystery alive ;),” the Paris prosecutor’s office replied.
