Benavidez promises to beat Yarde “better” than Beterbiev did
David Benavidez says that his goal is to defeat Anthony Yarde in a “better” way than Artur Beterbiev did when he defends his WBC heavyweight title against him in less than a month on November 22, 2025, in Riyadh.
Benavidez (30-0, 24 ko) says he is not sure whether he will have the opportunity to fight the winner of the trilogy game between Dmitry Bivol and eventually Arthur Beterbiev. If not, he wants to combat WBA’s cruise weight champion and WBO Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez.
It’s too early for Benavidez, 28, to think of fighting against someone else. He still has to defeat Yarde (27-3, 24 ko), which could surprise him with his punching force. Yarde is more explosive and powerful than the other two fighters Benavidez has fought in 175, David Morrell and Oleksandr Gvozdyk. He had a lot of trouble against those two men.
“We’re two bulls going on. It’s going to be a great battle,” David Benavidez told Boxing Talksport. “Anthony Yarde is a weight fighter, and I’m a weight fighter who comes on too. I want to get a better win than Artur Beterbiev got. I want to make more of a statement than he did against Anthony Yarde.”
It’s a waste of time for Benavidez to be thinking of improving on Beterbiev’s performance. Yarde is now 34, and not the same guy as he was two years ago at 32 when he fought against Artur. It will cast it out faster than Beterbiev did nothing.
If there was a way to fight Yarde that moment in his career, he could experience something afterwards. Even then, it would not mean that his performance was at the top of what Beterbiev did. He didn’t try to ko him as quickly as possible. It looked like Beterbiev focused on breaking it down slowly.
“This is his third attempt for a world title. He knows that there is a lot at stake in this battle. I have been working for four and a half months. I continued to win these fights and continue to try to fight the best opponents available,” said Benavidez when asked if he was asked if he questions whether he will get a Dmitry Bivol Vs Artur Beterbiev trilogy game winner.
