Blue Jays fans boo Shohei Ohtani at Rogers Center in Game 1

Fans at Rogers Center in Toronto booed the Dodgers superstar Shohei declines ahead of Game 1 of the World Series on Friday.
While it’s common for fans to jeer opposing players during pregame lineups, the boos that serenaded Ohtani were uniquely loud for his game. Dodgers teammates.
Ohtani didn’t quiet the crowd when he led off the first inning when he came up for his first plate impression of the game.

When Ohtani entered free agency in the winter of 2023, he visited the Blue Jays as a potential suitor before signing with the Dodgers.
The Blue Jays gave Ohtani a hat and a jacket for Decoy, Ohtani’s dog. Blue Jays manager John Schneider joked that he wanted both of those gifts back.

“I hope he brings his hat, the Blue Jay hat that he took from us at our meeting. I hope he eventually brings it back,” Schneider said Thursday.
“And a jacket for Decoy,” he added. “It’s like, ‘Give our stuff back already.'”
Ohtani laughed when he heard about Schneider’s remarks and simply said through a translator, “It’s in my garage.”

“When we met with him, you felt good about it, and you felt good about his reaction to our organization and the opportunity,” Schneider said.
“But you never know what a player is going through in free agency, and there’s a lot of things that are personal to them as well. So, you can’t really think about what could be. You can think about the 26 (players) that we have.”
