Brazilian boy denied bond after arrest, accused of gang ties

The Department of Homeland Security alleges the boy has ties to a Brazilian crime ring known as “Gang 33” and “has posed a threat to public safety through an extensive rap sheet,” the Globe reported. According to Boston.com, DeMaria said the teenager “has a criminal history, a criminal past” and is “well-known” to local law enforcement.
DeMaria also denied claims the city called US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel at the police station following the child’s arrest.

However, Boston-based civil rights advocates have called for an independent state investigation into the Everett Police Department’s role in the case.
