‘Corpse Bride’ or ‘Runaway Bride’? Here’s the Most Popular Wedding Movie in Each State

To reach this conclusion, The Loupe bloggers first compiled a list of twenty particularly beloved films centered around it Tie the knot. They then analyzed Google search data over the last five years to determine which click each state searched for the most.

Oh mama! (2008) was the clear winner, topping the list in eight states all located in the eastern half of the country. Steel magnolia (1989) and My big fat Greek wedding (2002) each won six states, with the former proving particularly popular in the South. Meanwhile, Southwest prefers creepy marriage stories to charming ones: The Tim Burton Story Corpse bride (2005) was the most searched film in California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.

Julia Roberts deserves her own participation award. She starred in three films that made the map, including Steel magnolia, The runaway bride (1999), and My best friend’s wedding (1997) – the last of which is a clear favorite in the Pacific Northwest. Meanwhile in the Midwest — specifically Minnesota, Illinois, and Ohio — people prefer it Bridesmaids (2011). This wasn’t the only film to focus more on A Bridesmaid From Bride: Starring Katherine Heigl 27 dresses (2008) came out on top in four states, from Idaho to Indiana.
