Dax Shepard joking about hitting Kristen Bell resurfaces amid backlash from ‘tone-deaf’ post
A video of Dax Shepard joking about hitting his wife Kristen Bell has resurfaced just days after the actress faced backlash over it. Her anniversary blog post is “tone deaf.”.
It was Shepard and Bell She was interviewed by SheKnows During press for their 2012 film “Hit and Run” when he made an off-color joke about hitting her.
In the clip, Bell recalls getting into the car with Shepherd after he spent two years “smoothing” her out.
“He was so excited. We went to lunch and the first thing I said, five minutes into the flight, was, ‘Looks like this is going to break,'” Bill said.
Shepherd said he was “deeply offended.”
“Then I hit her a few times,” Shepard joked, prompting Bell to cheekily add, “Then I got hit, and guess what — I never opened my mouth again.”
The reporter then told the couple that they had a “quite an interesting relationship.”
The bizarre exchange happened just days after Bell was in hot water for sharing a controversial message about her and Shepard’s 12th wedding anniversary.
The “Frozen” star shared a photo on Instagram of herself and Shepard hugging her with the caption: “Happy 12th wedding anniversary to the man who once told me, ‘I would never kill you. Many men have killed their wives at some point. Even though I’m so excited to kill you, I would never do it.” ❤️.”
Instagram users immediately dragged Bell for posting the message in October – which is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
“Just FYI, posting this comment during Domestic Violence Awareness Month is incredibly tone deaf :/please reconsider,” one person commented on the post.
Another critic added: “This is a very sad and insensitive thing to say, considering it is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and thousands of women have died at the hands of the man they trusted…” another critic added.
A domestic violence advocacy group also reported, Page Six exclusively reported Bell was criticized for her insensitivity.
“There is nothing funny about domestic violence ‘jokes’ that trivialize the real fear, trauma, and pain that millions of victims and survivors face every day,” a representative for the National Network to End Domestic Violence told Page Six in a statement Tuesday.
“Especially during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we all have a responsibility to support victims and survivors, invest in proven solutions, and talk about this issue with the seriousness it deserves,” the organization concluded.
Although some of Bell’s supporters defended her, she said, “No one wants this.” She limited her comments on Instagram Amidst severe criticism.
On Wednesday, Bill She skipped her scheduled appearance on the “Today” show. Her absence from the interview has not yet been addressed.
Bell — who posted about the pressure on her Netflix show on Instagram Tuesday — was nowhere to be seen during what was supposed to be an interview with her and co-star Justine Loeb on the NBC morning show.
Representatives for Bell and NBC did not respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
Bell (45 years old) and Shepherd (50 years old) married in October 2013 and have two daughters: Lincoln (12 years old) and Delta (10 years old).
