The first skeptics are now its strongest believers.

Becky Scateppo – who was already a mother of three and a medical professional with extensive experience with children’s problems – couldn’t comprehend what was happening with her 9-month-old’s stomach, and feared a hernia. She brought him to see a pediatrician who told her that what she was looking at were specific muscles that had not yet come together.

The fact is that before his first birthday, Cameron Scatipo had six-pack abs.

For Christmas 2004, Cameron, not yet 3 years old, received a black and yellow bicycle with training wheels. Already troubled and already advanced — the bow-legged toddler began walking at about 6 or 7 months and had gotten out of every car seat his family could find — he was adamant: There was no way he was going to have this new toy with an extra layer of security. His parents relented, and his grandfather removed the training wheels.
