I really need to vent and get some advice because our office has just turned into something I can’t even describe.
Our team has been 16 people for years. All the guys, all the pros, they’re all very tight-knit. We had our own way of doing things, our own “language,” and jokes that only we got. Nothing inappropriate, just a relaxed atmosphere that makes our long hours bearable. Honestly, it worked really well.
Then, last month, our president hired a woman. Nice lady at first glance, she seemed cool, we didn’t mind that at all. But cool. Things went downhill quickly.
I immediately started complaining, telling HR little things, and trying to “teach us”, professionals with years of experience, how to do our jobs right. She seemed constantly angry.
Suddenly, we had to watch our language around her: no banter, no casual gossip, just serious business matters. If we make a mistake, you will consider it a waste of time. We tried to be polite, we tried to accommodate, but it just didn’t work.
Eventually, we all got fed up and stopped trying to please her, let’s call it a silent boycott. She resigned a month later. We thought we breathed a sigh of relief. But the next day, we got an email from HR (a guy, by the way), saying:
