Jets to start Justin Fields after Tyrod Taylor injury, owner comments harshly

Less than a full week later New York Jets With owner Woody Johnson trashing Justin Fields and head coach Aaron Glenn refusing to name a starting quarterback for “competitive advantage,” the Week 8 decision has been made without much of a choice.

Johnson expressed his frustration with Fields during the NFL owners meeting earlier this week.

“It’s tough when you have a quarterback with the rating we’ve got,” he said. “He’s got potential, but not something intimate. If you look at any head coach at quarterback, you’re going to see similar results across the league. You’ve got to be consistent at that position, and that’s what we’re going to try to do the rest of the season.”

Reports have indicated that the Jets are planning to move toward Taylor, as many people on the Jets believe he is the best quarterback.

As recently as Friday, Glenn declined to name the quarterback because he “didn’t want” to be in constant discussion with the media. He added that the players knew who the quarterback would be.
