Logan Coley scored twice in the first 3:29, Nick Schmaltz also scored twice and the Utah Mammoth won its sixth straight game, defeating the Minnesota Wild 6-2 on Saturday night.
Wild veteran Marcus Johansson single-handedly got his team back into the game with a pair of goals. Johansson put Minnesota on the board with a one-timer from Zeev Boyum with 4:21 remaining in the first.
Two days after scoring a first-half hat-trick in St. Louis, Cooley opened the scoring on Saturday with a goal 56 seconds later. The former University of Minnesota star hit a backhand shot from the air that went past Wild goaltender Filip Gustafsson for an early 1-0 lead.
Cooley scored his second goal of the game on the power play at the 3:29 mark of the first period. Cooley and Utah benefited from a reduced penalty on Minnesota’s Jakov Trenin.
The Mammoths took a 3-0 lead less than two minutes later when Schmaltz scored his sixth goal of the season just five minutes into the game.
Johansson, who entered the match with just one goal this season, scored his second goal at the end of the second half. Johansson received a great backhand pass from fourth lineman Vinny Hinostroza and made it 3-2 with eight seconds left.
JJ Peterka made it 4-2 with 6:23 remaining in the third period, and Schmaltz scored his second goal for a 5-2 lead. Schmaltz has scored seven goals in his past five matches.
Utah goalkeeper Karel Vemelka made 32 saves.
John Marino added an empty-netter with 5.1 seconds left.
