
Karen Jean-Pierre Biden debates bulwark critic on press interactions

Former White House Press Secretary Karin Jean-Pierre debates the former president with The Bulwark’s Tim Miller. Joe BidenHe spoke to reporters on Monday.
Jean-Pierre appeared “Bulwarkpodcast to promote her new memoir, “Independent,” which focuses on her time in the Biden administration. During the podcast, Miller criticized Biden as a poor communicator and asked her if she had ever talked to him about his age.
Jean-Pierre said she never spoke to Biden about his age but argued that Biden communicates his ideas well “whether they come through or not.”

“He talked less to the press than Donald Trump,” Miller pushed back. “Very little. And he wasn’t there at all. He wasn’t good on the cuff. He wasn’t doing press conferences. Let’s be real. Like, he didn’t do events.”
“But Tim, it’s not true,” interrupted Jean-Pierre. “Tim, you’re making a mess of it all. That’s you… no, you’re… first you’re telling me he didn’t talk about it well. Then you’re telling me he didn’t talk at all.”
“He didn’t either. He didn’t talk very often, and when he did, it wasn’t very good. He sounded very old and frail,” argued Miller.

Jean-Pierre claimed that Miller was “not paying attention” and insisted that Biden speaks to the public more often.
“The president communicated with the American people two times a week. He traveled and traveled domestically and spoke directly to the American people. We’re talking about a time politically that is incredibly partisan. It’s hard to break from any message, and that was a responsibility,” Jean-Pierre said.

“I saw someone who was always involved. I saw someone who understood policy, pushed us on policy and also understood history,” Jean-Pierre said.
