Kevin Durant has a Chris Webber moment but the referees got it wrong in a wild argument on NBA opening night

News of the NBA season came Tuesday with a lot of excitement — and some late-game controversy.
With the Rockets and Thunder back and forth in a game that went to double overtime, one foul from Houston’s Kevin Durant in the first overtime could have ended things, but the officials missed the mark.
After Houston’s Tarry Eason blocked an 18-foot shot by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander with 2.2 seconds left in the first overtime period, tying the game at 115-115, Durant blocked the rebound and appeared to signal a timeout.

But Houston was left with nothing.
That meant a technical free throw and possession for the host Thunder, allowing them to ice the game away.
But the referees didn’t make the call, and time ran out to send the game into a second overtime, despite the Thunder arguing about what appeared to be a brutal missed call.
Crew chief Zach Zarba said there was only one reason the call wasn’t made: officials didn’t see it.
“None of the three match officials saw Kevin signal that time-out,” the referee said in an interview with Pool Report. “That is why it was not granted before the time was up.”
It brought back memories of Chris Webber making the same mistake in the 1993 NCAA Championship game that led to the University of Michigan losing to North Carolina State. This offense, though, was called, unlike Durant on Tuesday night.
However, the missed call didn’t hurt the Thunder, as they won a thrilling double-overtime game 125-124 in overtime to begin their NBA title defense behind Gilgeous-Alexander’s team-high 35 points.
His free throw with 2.3 seconds left sealed the win.
