Kristen Bell faces backlash over Dax Shepard anniversary post

Kristen Bell has drawn the ire of critics online for a three-sentence message she shared on her anniversary. Husband Dax Shepherd.

Bell, 45, wrapped his arms around the “Armchair Expert” podcast host in a photo posted to Instagram on Saturday.

The “Good Place” actress recalled the words Shepherd once read, but the message was lost on many of her followers, who slammed Bell and accused her of making a domestic violence joke.

Bell wrote, “Happy 12th wedding anniversary to the man who once told me, ‘I’ll never kill you. Most men have beaten their wives at some point. Even though I was encouraged to kill you, I never would.’

While some fans were unmoved by Bell’s words, many accused the mother of two of downplaying the sensitive subject.

“1. Congratulations! 2. I know the headline is supposed to be cute, funny, but every ten minutes around the world a woman is murdered by her partner,” one user wrote, adding the hashtag, “#stopviolenceagainstwomen.”

“Domestic violence is not a joke,” another user commented, while one follower asked, “Is this … funny?”

“Honestly, it’s a fantastic thing to joke about. Honestly, someone read it with gratitude,” noted an Instagram user.

“This is tone deaf and offensive in any month,” wrote one fan.

Representatives for Bell did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

Shepard and Bell First met in 2007 at a mutual friend’s dinner party. A few weeks later, the two ran into each other in a hockey game and the rest is history.

After their dinner party, Shepard texts Bell, saying, “I violated your privacy and took your number from Shauna. How do you feel about that?”

“I, like, well, it started with a really good joke that made me feel like butterflies. I fell in love with him before he fell in love with me,” Bell remembered.

The two married in 2013 and have two daughters, Lincoln and Delta.
