Kristen Bell is sparking outrage over Dax Shepard’s tone-deaf anniversary post
This is the bad place.
Kristen Bell is facing online backlash over what she wrote in her husband Dax Shepard’s “tone-deaf” annual post.
On Saturday, Bell, 45, took part in Instagram photo to The couple They cuddle on their bed, with the caption: “Happy 12th wedding anniversary to the man who once told me: ‘I would never kill you. Many men have killed their wives at some point. Even though I have great incentive to kill you, I would never do it.”❤️.”
In the comments section, fans accused Bell of downplaying domestic violence.
“Kristin, there is no way you would post this during Domestic Violence Awareness Month 😭,” one follower wrote.
“Just an FYI, posting this comment during Domestic Violence Awareness Month is incredibly tone deaf :/please reconsider,” another person said.
“Please don’t joke about domestic violence. Please keep in mind that this is a real thing that a lot of people go through every day,” another person told Bell.
A fourth fan said: “How could any self-respecting woman stay with a man who jokes around like that? I’m not even a very serious person, but this would make me leave so fast your head will spin.”
Another comment said: “What a strange thing to say.”
“Girl, things didn’t work out the way you thought they would and now we’re all wondering why you’re with this guy,” another critic wrote.
But other followers defended Bell and her message.
“It was just a joke, oh my god,” one comment read.
“Can everyone please stop! This is clearly their sense of humor. If you don’t like it, move on,” one fan wrote.
The Post has reached out to representatives for Bell and Shepard for comment.
The Good Place alumna married Shepherd, 50, on October 17, 2013. Girls share Lincoln (12 years) and Delta (10 years).
While doing press at the season 2 red carpet premiere of “Nobody Wants This” on Thursday, Bell was reminded that her and Shepard’s wedding anniversary is approaching.
“Is…oh my god, it’s my anniversary!” She said to Entertainment Tonight correspondent. “You know I don’t remember that. Oh, I’m so glad you told me.”
“It helps that he doesn’t remember either,” she added of her husband. “And no one’s wrong here, right? We’re not good with dates.”
Bell also teased the couple’s anniversary plans.
“I don’t know if making macaroni and cheese counts as preparing for our anniversary. But we have a date tomorrow night, so we can celebrate,” she said.
