Matchroom Star Faces the Wigger Executive

It is not official that WCG’s lightweight welter champion, Subriel Matias (23-2, 22 KOS) will defend his title against Dalton Smith (18-0, 13 ko) on January 18, 2026, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Compared to some of the other options available for Matias, this is a medium -level opponent. Although the Brit, 28, is unbeaten, he has not faced any distinguished competitors at 140 during his six -year professional career.

Dalton Smith, promoted by Matchroom, has been quickly moved up the rankings without facing any of the killers at a lightweight welter weight. It wasn’t a great amateur before turning into a pro, ending with an average record 39-11, which screams ordinary. It’s hard to know how well he will respond in his first real fight against a quality fighter in Matias.

Former IBF Puerto Rico’s 140 lbs champion Matias looked like an relentless executioner in the destruction of WBC champion Alberto Puello by decision 12 rounds earlier this year on July 12 in Queens, New York.

Caesar Seda broke the news earlier today about Matias vs Smith taking place on January 10, 2026, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The venue works better for Puerto Rican Matias, as many of his supporters in New York will be present. Therefore, it will not be lacking for fans to support him against guest fighter Smith.

Dalton’s last seven wins

  • Matthew Germain
  • Walid Quizza
  • Joseph Zepeda
  • Sam Maxwell
  • Billy Allington
  • Kaisey Benjamin
  • Sam O’Maison

As you can see, Dalton Smith has not taken a risk with the opposition he has been facing. It is unclear whether he had a voice in the kind of opposition he faces. It’s a red flag that Matchroom chose to fit Smith so weak for six solid years. There was no actual development. This was more about building a record.
