Mets sign left-handed reliever Richard Lovelady to a one-year deal

Mets are Secure their required inventory Before the deadline for 40-man rosters.

On Thursday, the team signed left-hander Richard Lovelady to a one-year major league contract.

Lovelady pitched to an 8.49 ERA last season in 10 appearances, eight of which were for the Mets.

He also appeared in two games for the Blue Jays.

Lovelady became an option for the club this season after losing lefties AJ Minter and Danny Young to season-ending surgeries.

Brooks Raley served as the Mets’ primary left field option out of the bullpen.

Lovelady was the source of a comic strip upon his arrival in June. A misunderstanding led to the Mets referring to him as “Dickie” in a press release.

Lovelady has made it clear that he prefers to be listed publicly as “Richard”, but may be referred to informally at the club as Dickie.
