More than 60 people have died in Ugandan road accidents

A multi-vehicle crash on a highway in Uganda has killed 63 people, police said on Wednesday.

According to the Ugandan police force, at 00:15 local time (21:15 GMT), two buses traveling in opposite directions “came into contact” while trying to overtake two other vehicles on the Kampala-Gulu highway.

One of the buses overturned in an attempt to avoid an accident, but in the process suffered a “head-on and side collision” that caused a “chain reaction” in which other vehicles lost control and overturned.

Also, the passenger of the vehicle who died in the accident and several others were injured, police said and have started an investigation.
