Myles Garrett disappointed in Browns loss despite record five-sack game

The Cleveland Browns After an impressive Week 7 performance against the Miami Dolphins, the New England Patriots were hoping to piece together their first winning streak of the season on Sunday, but there was something else on their minds.

Cleveland struggled offensively again in a 32-13 loss to New England in Massachusetts, as rookie quarterback Dylan Gabriel threw two interceptions as well as two touchdowns in what looked to be close until a 21-point third quarter for New England.

But Garrett doesn’t care what he does when the Browns’ record is 2-6. He’s sick of hearing the same questions every week after a game about how the offense doesn’t back up the stellar defensive performance.

“It doesn’t get any easier every week you ask me,” Garrett said in response to a reporter’s question on the matter.

“I will throw away the whole performance for the win.”

Garrett’s performance was a franchise record, as no Browns player had previously recorded five sacks in a single game. But instead of celebrating a bright day at the line of scrimmage, he was seen slamming his helmet down in frustration on the Browns’ sideline.

Garrett’s talent is undeniable, but he made it clear this offseason that the opportunity to compete for a Super Bowl motivates him.

It’s been a tumultuous offseason for the star edge rusher, as he requested a trade in February after another disappointing Browns campaign in 2024. Garrett was looking for a contract extension at the time.

“Dreaming as a child NFLI was just focused on the ultimate goal of winning the Super Bowl – and that goal today makes me more excited than ever,” he said in a statement. These eight years have shaped me into the person I am today.

“I love calling this city my home, but my desire to win and compete on the biggest stages will not allow me to become complacent. The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton, it was always to compete for and win the Super Bowl.”

Browns GM Andrew Berry was adamant about not wanting to trade Garrett, and about a month later, the two sides agreed to a four-year extension worth $123 million, a record at the time of the signing. According to his agent, Garrett had a “change of heart” and was committed to helping the Browns move forward with Vince Lombardi Trophy hopes headed to Cleveland.

Garrett and the Browns defense are doing their job in that pursuit, allowing the third-fewest yards per game of any NFL team this season (276.9), though allowing 32 points dropped them to 17th in points allowed per game (23.0).

Meanwhile, the Browns’ offense is 31st in total yards per game (263.5) and 30th in points scored (15.8).
