A 12-year-old girl is clinging to life after her stepfather stabbed her in the head and also attacked her mother in a violent rampage earlier this week, police said Friday.

Police said Joshua Burnside, 28, repeatedly stabbed the girl in the head and cut her in the face as violence erupted around 11:15 p.m. Wednesday inside the family’s apartment on East 173rd Street near Boone Street in Charlotte Gardens.

He also stabbed his 31-year-old wife in the stomach and injured her in the face, authorities said.

Two younger children, a 5-year-old boy and a 2-year-old girl, were in the home when the violence broke out, but were not hurt, police said.

The 12-year-old girl, who was seriously injured — suffering facial bruising as well as stab wounds — was taken to Cohen Children’s Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition, according to authorities.

Her mother and two younger children were taken to Jacobi Medical Center in stable condition, police said.

Burnside, who was found injured in his left wrist, was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition, cops said. It was not immediately clear how he was injured.

He was arrested and charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon and acting in a manner injurious to a child, police said.
