wheat Gavin NewsomD-Calif., revealed Sunday that he will begin giving “serious consideration” to a potential 2028 run after the 2026 midterms during an interview with CBS.

“Is it fair to say that after the 2026 midterms, you’re going to seriously consider this?” CBS correspondent Robert Costa asked Newsom.

“Yes, I’d be lying otherwise,” the California governor replied.

“I’d just be lying. And I can’t do that,” he added.

Costa followed up and noted that the governor has always said he needs a compelling reason to run for president.

“Are you getting closer to finding your own why and your own decision?” Costa asked.

Newsom responded by quoting Friedrich Nietzsche, “If you have a compelling reason, you can endure anyway.”

“I think the biggest challenge for anybody running for any office is if you don’t have why, people see right through you. You’re doing it for the wrong reasons. And so, look, trust is what matters,” Newsome added.
