NHL News: Brad Marchand cries during emotional tribute video at TD Garden return

While there is no crying in baseball, there is certainly crying in hockey.

Florida Panthers Star Brad Marchand made his return to TD Garden in the team’s 4-3 win over the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night and was emotional as the Bruins played a tribute video for him.

Marchand, 37, spent 15 years of his career with the Bruins before being traded to the Panthers before last year’s trade deadline. He was its captain when the Bruins traded him.

After playing the tribute, Marchand hopped on the boards and acknowledged the rousing applause he received, and emotions quickly got the best of him. He began to cry on the ice and then sat back on the bench, overcome with emotion.

“Obviously, I want to thank (the fans) for a pretty incredible job here,” Marchand said in a pregame interview. with NESN. “I have had the best years (of my life).”

Marchand had two assists in Tuesday’s win over the Panthers. He has eight points in eight games so far this season.

Marchand was an important part Bruins 2010-11 Stanley Cup winning team. The four-time All-Star scored 422 goals and dished out 554 assists for 976 points in 1,090 games with the Bruins.

The forward has the fourth-most games played and fourth-most goals in franchise history and is fifth all-time in points.

Marchand was outstanding for the Panthers in their Stanley Cup win, with 10 goals and 10 assists in 23 playoff games for the Panthers.
