Representatives for Steve Sarkisian have denied reports that the Texans coach is interested in an NFL job

Steve Sarkisian may be looking beyond Texas. But his acting says otherwise.

the Athletic player Diana Rossini stated on Saturday that representatives of the Longhorns’ head coach “told NFL decision-makers that he would be interested in potential coaching opportunities.”

The Giants, who have a head coach opening yet Brian Callahan was fired earlier this monthwas specifically named by Rossini.

However, hours after The Athletic’s report, Sarkisyan’s agents at Creative Artists Agency issued a statement, denying that the coach had any thoughts of moving to the pros.

“Any reports of communications regarding coaching opportunities with NFL teams are patently false and grossly inaccurate. Sark is solely focused on coaching the University of Texas football team,” Jimmy Sexton and Ed Marinowitz wrote.

Sarkisian is no stranger to the NFL.

In 2004, Sarkisian served as the Raiders’ linebackers coach under head coach Norv Turner.

He returned to the NFL in 2017, serving as the Falcons’ offensive coordinator for two seasons before leaving for Alabama to become the quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator there.

In more than four seasons as Texas’ head coach, Sarkisian went 42-19, though the Longhorns fell short of the elusive national title.

Overall, he went 88-54 as a head coach at the college level with stints at Washington and USC as well as Texas.

The Longhorns are now in the midst of a disappointing campaign after entering the year as the No. 1 ranked team in the country, losing 5-2 to Ohio State and Florida before their matchup against Mississippi State on Saturday.

Sarkisian’s offense, in particular, struggled, averaging 368.3 total yards per game, 78th in college football.

Earlier this year, Sarkisian got a new deal from the Texans Who extended his contract until the 2031 season and raised his salary this year from $10.4 million to $10.8 million.

At the time, Sarkisian reportedly declined interviews with two NFL teams and had not officially met with any to remain in Texas.

“The fact that Sarkisian has not done any interviews with the NFL shows his support and commitment to the University of Texas,” a source told Action Network in January.
