While only dividing the ring with Evander HolyfieldRiddick Bowe has offered his views on the place where ‘The Real Deal’ would be in a conversation that includes Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson.
Bowe and Holyfield presented three enchanting heavy weight shows between 1992 and 1995With the first coming off their powerful trilogy as a 2-1 win.
Perhaps most notably, following the second contest, which Holyfield won by majority decision, the famous ‘spot’ brought a scourge on the Ring Fed during their encounter for the Bowe IBF and WBA world titles.
It was also in 1993 that Tyson spent six years in prison, which means that the time of conflict between him and Big Daddy was never quite right, along with the fact that the pair were also childhood friends.
During the same year, Bowe had pinned his WBC title – refusing to face the compulsory challenger Lewis – and instead fought with Holyfield for the second time.
That trilogy with Holyfield was fierce enough for Bowe to graduate his ex-enemy above Lewis and Tyson in an interview with Boxing News.
“(With) Holyfield, no matter what you do to him, or how you do it, it’s going to be there.
“Lennox, I put it in number two because he is the biggest of us all – probably proved to be durable.
“Mike (he wasn’t as resilient) as those guys (Caerglield and Lewis) – because they cast him out. But, in full swing, he was the man who beat everyone out, so I’m making Mike in number three.”
Many would be tempted to place Lewis at the top of a list containing the three myths, Especially given that it should, in fact, boast two -point victories over Holyfield.
During their first encounter, in 1999, the two men came away with a very controversial draw, before Lewis immediately claimed a unanimous verdict.
Then, in 2002, ‘The Lion’ secured the victory of an eighth round over Tyson who was then considered far beyond his best.
But still, the majority would probably consider Holyfield, who beat Tyson twice in a convincing fashion, and Lewis as two leading heavy weights of their time.
