Art collective TeamLab has added another museum to its roster in Japan, and it’s the biggest ever. Located in Kyoto, teamlab biovortex kyoto It spans 10,000 square meters (about 107,639 square feet) and more than 50 artworks transport visitors to another world. From interactive installations to educational spaces, the museum is a complete showcase of TeamLab’s creativity.

Notable work that debuted in the Kyoto space includes: Megaliths in the eternal existence of the open universe. The installation is based on the concept that the environment produces phenomena that allow the artwork to exist. The sights and sounds of the space fully engage visitors, allowing them to feel connected to the artwork. This is the magic of TeamLab, they produce works of art that are not only seen, but felt with the entire body.

“Our goal was to create physical art where the world of the artwork is in contact with the body, transformed by the presence of people, and integrated with the self,” says TeamLab founder Inoko Toshiyuki. “This art form is experienced when one walks with intention in a spatial environment extending to infinity. Additionally, we aim to explore a world in which works of art are constantly interconnected and flow without limits, with the beauty inherent in the continuity within.”

Another notable experience is Continuity of conversionwhere small balls lit in a myriad of colors rotate around the room. The calm energy they exude is indicative of how TeamLab works. Using sound, light and colour, they are able to change moods and transform the energy contained within a space.

“TeamLab Kyoto has already exceeded my high expectations,” says Eugene Kim, co-founder and editor-in-chief of My Modern Met. “Delicate installations, stunning lighting, floating lanterns and towering monoliths combine to make for an unforgettable visit. A must-see place in Kyoto with unparalleled photo opportunities.”

Located within walking distance of Kyoto Station, the TeamLab Biovortex Kyoto store has already been a huge success, with all tickets sold out before opening. Moving from installation to installation, the energy of opening day was palpable, with each area holding a new surprise waiting to be experienced. Certain to become a new destination in the already culturally rich city of Kyoto, this is just another great achievement for teamLab.
