With the Mariners’ pitching staff being one of the best in baseball all year, there were options on who to deploy late in the game because it was an all-hands-on-deck situation. After George Kirby gave him four innings, Mariners manager Dan Wilson went with Brian Woo, and Woo gave him clean sheets in the fifth and sixth innings.

But Woo opened the door with a walk to Barger to start the seventh inning, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa woke Rogers Center with a single that put runners on first and second with nobody out. After Andres Gimenez moved them in with a sacrifice bunt, Bazardo came in to face Springer.

Springer came up.

Jeff Hoffman started the celebration by striking out all three batters, including Rodriguez, in the ninth inning.
