
The Parthenon in Athens, Greece is free of scaffolding for the first time in 200 years

For the first time in 200 years, visitors can see Greece’s most iconic historic landmarks without scaffolding. But those interested need to act fast to catch the view.
The Parthenon Temple, Sitting on Athens’ famous Acropolis Hill, it has been the subject of constant restoration efforts since the early 19th century.
On October 11, The Associated Press reported that the latest scaffolding project on the west facade of the Parthenon — ongoing since 2005 — had been completed.

For the first time in years, the view of the temple is completely clear.
The removal of the scaffolding has made a dramatic difference to tourists, as the west facade of the Parthenon Best view of the temple from the street.

Greek Culture Minister Lena Mendoni said during an interview on Sky Radio that the scaffolding was removed at the end of September.
“It’s like they’re looking at a completely different monument,” Mendoni said.

But the pause is temporary.
Mendoni said the new scaffolding will be put up in early November, although the structures will be short.

The scaffolding will be “lighter and aesthetically closer to the logic of the monument,” the official said.
Conservation work is likely to be completed by early next summer.

At that point, “the Parthenon will also be completely free of this scaffolding and the public will be able to see it for free,” Mendoni said.
