Tim Tszyu rebuilt with Pedro Great Cuban Diaz after defeat
A respected Cuban coach, Pedro Diaz, will now train Tim Tszyu in Mundo Boxing in Miami, Florida. Former Junior Mid-Mid-weight champion Tszyu (25-3, 18 ko) is changing things after losing three of his last four fights since 2024.
Tszyu, 30, comes off a seventh -round stop loss to Sebastian Fundora in their second game on July 19, 2025, in Las Vegas. For that battle and all his previous ones during his career, Tim was trained by Igor Goloubev.
The effect of a Cuban teacher
After Tszyu’s loss to Fundora, he is said to have separated roads with Goloubev and his team was completely restructured. He has now added Cuban’s great coach, Pedro Diaz. It makes sense for Tim to make changes, as it has gone 1-3 since last year and was suspended in two fights.
Diaz trained the Cuban national team through four Olympic games (1992, 1996, 2000, and 2004).

Olly Campbell’s point of view: Why Diaz could fail
It is doubtful whether coach Pedro Diaz will be able to make the stunning changes needed for Tim Tszyu to return to his old form. He is 30 years old now and received a great deal of punishment in his first battle with Fundora on March 30, 2024. He lost that battle by split decision 12 rounds.
Tszyu also beaten in his loser in the third round against IBF 154-LB Bakhram Murtazaliev champion on October 19, 2024. He was struck down four times in battle, and arguably should have been pulled out in the second round.
With all the young talent in 154, it’s going to be difficult for Tszyu to find a place where it can win a world title. Even at its best, Tszyu was battling fighters like Terrell Gausha and Tony Harrison.
Those fighters do not apply in the top echelon of the mid -Junior weight section today. He has improved tremendously in the past year.
