Trenton barbershop voters split in New Jersey governor’s race

New Jersey Voters made their voices heard in a Trenton barber shop recently, discussing taxes and the economy as polls tighten in one of the nation’s most popular gubernatorial races.

“Everybody needs help,” Wayne Downing, owner of Success Barber Shop and Salon, lamented to “Fox & Friends” co-host Lawrence Jones.

“New Jersey is the Garden State, right? What’s growing in New Jersey? I don’t see anything growing,” he added.

In a segment that aired Tuesday, Jones visited the venue to talk to voters about where they stand on candidates Mickey Sherrill and Jack Ciatarelli and what might cause them to reconsider their positions.

“I’m going with Jack,” one voter confidently shared.

“Because from what I’ve seen of her (Sherrill) … she’s avoiding the real serious questions, so how do you expect me to vote for you if you don’t have an answer?” He continued.

Another person in the room disagreed.

“I’m leaning towards (her),” he said, “I like her opinions,” when asked to elaborate, though the specific opinions he favored remained unclear.

Others were undecided, including one customer sitting in a barber’s chair for a haircut.

“I haven’t really decided,” he said.

“Mickey Sherrill will be an extension of Governor Murphy and his quote-unquote ‘liberal policies.’ And Jack Ciatarelli will be a quote-unquote ‘puppet for Trump,’ but that’s the overall picture.”

Asked if he wanted to make a decision, the voter admitted he’s likely to lean toward Sherrill until Ciatarelli can focus “more” on the state, and he’s making more of an effort to do so.

Ciattarelli recently met with Downing to discuss his business plan for the Garden State, including how to small business grow up

Downing praised Ciatarelli as a “great businessman”.

Out-of-control utility bills, education and the economy topped voters’ list of top concerns.

Sherrillene Ciatarelli leads New Jersey likely voters by five points The latest Fox News polldown from an eight-point lead in September.

Among registered voters, Sherrill has a four-point, seven-point lead.

In either case, the numbers are now within the margin of error.
