Trump said he would be willing to meet Kim Jong Un at the DMZ during his upcoming trip to Asia

President Donald Trump On Saturday, he said he was “open” to meeting North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un at the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) while in South Korea during a tour of Asia.
“I’m 100% open to it. I have a good relationship with Kim Jong Un,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One.
“They don’t have much telephone service,” the president said. “They have a lot of nuclear weapons, but not much telephone service.”
Trump, who left for Asia on Friday night, told reporters he could “give word” that he would be willing to meet the dictator. The president also responded to a question about recognizing North Korea as a nuclear power.

“I think they’re kind of a nuclear power,” Trump said. “I mean, I know how many weapons they have. I know everything about them and I have a very good relationship with Kim Jung Un. When you say they should be recognized as a nuclear power, well, they have a lot of nuclear weapons, I’ll say that.”
Unification Minister of South Korea Chung Dong-young called on Trump and Kim to “make a bold decision,” according to Reuters, which reported the comments to South Korea’s Yonhap news agency.
A White House official noted Friday that Trump and the North Korean leader met during his first term in office.
“During his first term, President Trump held three historic summits with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un that brought stability to the Korean Peninsula,” the official said in a statement to Fox News Digital. “US policy on North Korea has not changed. President Trump is open to talking with Kim Jong Un, but such a meeting is not currently on the schedule for this trip.”

“President Trump is willing to talk to Kim Jong Un without preconditions,” a White House official told Fox News Digital earlier this month.
“President Trump held three historic summits with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un during his first term that brought stability to the Korean Peninsula. US policy on North Korea has not changed,” the official added.

North Korea launched ballistic missiles days before Trump’s visit to the peninsula
The week-long trip includes stops in Malaysia, Japan and South Korea. In addition, the White House said that Trump will meet with the President of China Xi Jinping Thursday during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit.
In 2018, during his first term, Trump and Kim met for what was The first ever US-North Korea summit. This meeting was held in Singapore. A joint statement at the time said the two leaders “exchanged comprehensive, in-depth and sincere views on issues related to the establishment of new US-DPRK relations.”
A summit between Kim and Trump in Hanoi, Vietnam in February 2019 ended without an agreement between the two.

A year later, in June 2019, Trump met with Kim again, this time at the DMZ, becoming the first sitting US leader to set foot in North Korea. During the visit, he took 20 steps into North Korean territory where he shook hands with Kim.
Speaking to reporters in 2019, Trump said he and Kim agreed to resume talks on North Korea’s nuclear program. He said the aim was not to speed up the deal, but to “get it right”.
