Tyreek Hill is considering retirement after the Dolphins’ gruesome season-ending injury

A devastating season-ending injury has Tyreek Hill contemplating his death over football.

The Dolphins star has not yet made a decision on retirement, but acknowledged it is a possibility after tearing his left anterior cruciate ligament as well as other ligament damage. He suffered on September 29th.

“I feel like this decision depends on how I feel and my mindset at the moment.” Hill said Thursday on “The Set” podcast. “Right now, I’m happy. I’m happy to be with my kid, I’m happy with the career I’ve had. I love playing football. I love it, man, but it takes a lot. … It takes a lot to be the best, stay at the top and make a lot of money, help your team win games and things like that. It takes a lot, man. It takes a lot from you mentally, and it takes a lot from you physically.”

“I’m at a point now where I need to have a conversation with my mom and my family and everyone. Wherever my mind is at the time, the decision will be made, but I know now, I feel like I didn’t have the time to live in this moment and be in this moment with my family, so I just want to be in this moment with my family. … I don’t want to make any rash decisions, of course.”

Hill will be 32 years old when next season opens, and it appears he will be a free agent since reports emerged that The Dolphins will likely part ways with him.

He signed a three-year, $90 million extension with $65 million in guarantees in 2024, which will take him through the 2026 season.

This season marks his 10th season in the NFL, his last four with the Dolphins after six years with the Chiefs.

It’s certainly possible for Hill to come back and still be a top receiver, but major surgery on a speed wide receiver is never a good thing for a player over 30 years old.

“When I was tackled, I immediately tried to get up… I saw that my leg was twisted,” Hill said on the podcast. Per ESPN. “I started laughing right away because I’ve been able to play this game for 10 years, my whole life really, and I’ve been blessed with amazing talents and amazing gifts. The amount of support I get from my family, it’s amazing. So I wasn’t really thinking about getting injured. I was thinking about the great times I’m having playing this game.”

With the Dolphins (1-6) headed toward a disastrous season that could lead to it Coach Mike McDaniel fired Tua Tagovailoa may be replaced at quarterback, and it appears there are a lot of changes on the horizon for the AFC East franchise.

That future will almost certainly not include Hill, but he will take his time during recovery to decide if he still has that competitive desire after a solid decade in the NFL.
