US program lead Chelsea Memmel addressed the team’s poor performance.
“It was rough,” Memmel said, according to Olympics.com. “There were some really good pieces, but then it was rough. I didn’t think there was an overall attack of their events and their skills. There are still good things, but I have work to do.

“We will talk about it, but not kill,” Memmel added. “They know what happened. They know they didn’t do their best, so they want to come into training and reset.”
The US has a habit of regularly dominating the women’s division in international gymnastics. It was only the third year since 2006 that the US has not finished with the most women’s medals since 2006, in addition to 2017 and 2021, tied for the most with Japan and Russia.

This year, the team was without superstars Simone Biles, Sunny Lee, Jade Carey and Jordan Chilli.
If this past week is any indication, the women’s dynasty of US gymnastics could be in trouble heading into the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
“For me, that means going into every turn with the intention that it’s going to be great and being confident about it,” Memmel explained. “Believing in it — believing in themselves — doing it and knowing that when it’s time to put their hands up, they can do it.”
