Usyk has no debt to Itauma, Mora said: “Let him win it”
Sergio Mora says he does not believe that the undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk should fight Moses Itauma before he retires in three years’ time. He believes usyk (24-0, 15 ko) does not owe itauma, aged 20 unprovenly, to boost his career by fighting him before he hung his gloves at 41 years.
Itauma “Win-Win” fantasy
Itauma (13-0, 11 ko) has expressed an interest in fighting usyk, considering him a “win-win” for him. He gets a world title shot, a big payday, and has a ready excuse to give to his fans if he loses. He can blame him on his inexperience and age.
If he wins the battle, there is a real advantage. Either way, it works in favor of Itauma while doing very little usyk except a big payday. Itauma would have an unworthy chance.
The sanctioning bodies have quickly gave itauma a high position, although it has not fought any heavy quality of quality. It’s a #1 WBA and #1 WBO site, which means usyk will have no choice but to fight it soon if it wants to hold those belts.
Half of the age, a quarter of the resume
“There’s no way he should be battling a guy who is half his age who hasn’t even won a quarter of his success,” Sergio Mora told Chris Mannix channel For his belief that Oleksandr Usyk should not fight a less skilled Moses Itauma, who has never fought against anyone noted other than Dillian WHyte, 37, who has faded.
The last eight opponents of Itauma
- WHYTE DILLIAN
- Mike Balogun
- Demsey McKean
- Mariusz wach
- Ilja mezencev
- Under carber
- Michal Boloz
- István bernáth
It would be less of a problem for Itauma to challenge a world title if he had battled good opposition since becoming a pro player in 2023. Going back his record, he does not graduate a world title shot against usyk, and does not belong to #1 at the sites.
Torrez Jr. deserves more respect
What is interesting is that the winner of the Olympic Silver Medal 2020 Richard Torrez Jr. has been moved up as high as Itauma, though he faces better opposition as a pro. Torrez has Jr. (13-0, 11 ko) also improved amateur qualifications.
“Usyk is allowed to make the decision about who he is fighting. Usyk does not need to boost him in his career. It’s time for Moses Itauma to do so on his own clock,” said Mora.
“Moses Itauma has not beaten no yet,” said Mannix. “Itauma team knows it’s not ready for usyk.“ I think if they fought tomorrow, usyk would win that battle. Itauma, has he come out of the third round yet?
