William Scull returns Jan 31 to prove he has beaten Canelo
William Scull will be back fighting against the senior weight candidate Jacob Bank on January 31, 2026, at Sydbank Arena, Kolding, in Denmark.
This is the first battle back for a former 168-B Scull IBF champion (23-1, 9 ko) since its first career defeat against Canelo Alvarez on May 3, 2025, in Riyadh. That battle was much closer than the scores given by two of the judges. The scores were 115-113, 116-112, and 119-109.
Canelo beat – Ask him
In terms of power, speed, and aggressive weapons, Cuban Scull looked more impressive than what Terence Crawford showed in his unanimous decision unanimous 12 round over Canelo on September 13th. Scull thinks he did enough to deserve the decision Against Canelo, but the judges did not give him the treatment and-side he received Crawford.
The diamond is still rough
Scull showed much more power, speed and technical ability than Bud Crawford did. He looked like a diamond in the rough, just needed to make one small tweak in his game to have beaten Alvarez that night. Scull was more talented physically than Crawford and more suitable for the 168 lbs section.
Where Scull failed his decision to move constantly rather than standing his ground, using his fast combination of punch to get the best on Alvarez. When Scull stopped and fought, he got the best of Canelo in almost every exchange. That was clearly one of the reasons why the Mexican star was reluctant to break the ring to force the right mobile to mix it with.
Bank: Denmark Test
Scull is ranked No. 9 IBF in 168, and needs to defeat Dane Bank, 24, to be pushed up in the positions a little closer to getting the more fighting. A bank is a #4 WBO #12 WBC site, and comes off a sweeping victory in the fifth round over former 168-LB WBA champion, Tyron Zeuge, on September 13, 2025, in Denmark.
“The loss to Canelo was an experience that made me stronger. I learned a lot, and now I’m back, more focused and decisive than ever,” said William Scull, while reflecting on his loss to Canelo Alvarez earlier this year on May 3rd.
“Jacob Bank is a young, hungry boxer, but I will show him that experience and class are making a difference.”
